FTN: Latest on Alderwerield, Zaha, Modric and Dembele
Today’s edition of Football Transfer News looks at the agreement of a fee for Toby Alderwerield. There is also news on Wilfried Zaha and Inter Milan’s hunt for a central midfielder.
Toby Alderwerield Fee Agreed
Jose Mourinho’s drawn-out search for a centre-back appears to be reaching an end. After several months of negotiating, Manchester United and Tottenham are rumoured to have agreed a £60million fee for Toby Alderwerield. Tottenham’s hand may have been forced after Alderwerield reportedly told them he would run his contract down and leave for free next summer.
The Belgian international has been top of United’s wishlist all summer. However, with negotiations at a standstill, United had targeted Harry Maguire and Yerry Mina.
Inter Search for Central Midfielder
Italian giants Inter Milan are keen to add a high profile midfielder before the deadline. They had agreed a fee with Spurs for Moussa Dembele. However, as with several offers from clubs in China, the Belgian turned the move down. It appears that Dembele, who only has a year remaining on his contract, is content to stay at Tottenham for the upcoming season.
Inter have now turned their attention to World Cup star Luka Modric. The Golden Ball winner who inspired Croatia’s final run, is wanted by Inter in reply to Juventus’ capture of Ronaldo. Real Madrid are reluctant to sell, although a significant bid could prove hard to reject for a 32-year-old.
Real Madrid will reject Inter’s opening offer of £35million. The Italian side will hope Modric requests a move in order to lower Madrid’s asking price.
Chelsea Favourites in Zaha Race
Wilfried Zaha has been the subject of interest from Chelsea and Tottenham all summer. However, with Crystal Palace refusing to lower their £75million asking price, Spurs’ interest has cooled. Consequently, Tottenham will turn their attention back to Aston Villa’s Jack Grealish.
With Eden Hazard and Willian’s future uncertain, Chelsea are keen to bring in reinforcements. Zaha has starred for Palace, playing a key role in their Premier League survival. Chelsea could soften the blow with the inclusion of a loan move for Ruben Loftus-Cheek in the deal.
