Football League Transfer News
Villa Eye 16-Goal Neal Maupay
If reports are true, and Tammy Abraham leaves Aston Villa, then a replacement has already been identified. Brentford’s 16-goal forward Neal Maupay is the man who tops the wish list. However, this deal may not be as straightforward as it would seem.
Brentford value their star man at £6 million but according to reports, this could be a problem for Villa. Recent reports suggest that financial fair play rules could limit them to short-term deals only. One possible way Villa could get their man would be to offload players first.
Charlton Chase Keeper
Preston North End keeper Chris Maxwell is a target for League One side Charlton. The Addicks are keen to sign a new goalkeeper having lost Jed Steer, who was recalled by Aston Villa. 28-year-old Maxwell has featured 11 times so far this season; however, since his sending off in November, he has failed to start.
Bristol City are also reportedly interested in the Welshman as they look to bolster their squad. Charlton could offer a better chance of first-team football with a promotion-chasing side rather than another spell on the bench. Charlton would likely offer a loan deal to begin with, although City could tempt him with a permanent transfer.
Barnsley Keen on Striker
League One promotion chasers Barnsley are interested in taking Sunderland’s Andrew Nelson on loan. The forward suffered an injury during pre-season and is currently on loan at Darlington, a loan which ends this week. 21-year-old Nelson has had a successful time on loan, scoring six goals in five games. Sunderland are keen to send him out again to help his development.
The Black Cats, however, are unlikely to want to help out a promotion rival by allowing a promising striker to aid their campaign. Sunderland manager Jack Ross will be keen for Nelson to gain more league experience, but a deal to a League Two side or a club that are not a threat in League One would be where he is expected to go.
Peterborough to Re-Sign Tomlin?
Cardiff City striker Lee Tomlin could be set to rejoin Peterborough United. The 29-year-old is not in Neil Warnock’s plans and is free to leave. League One Peterborough are hoping to complete a loan deal very soon. Tomlin took social media recently to say that the deal was imminent.
Tomlin first signed for Posh in 2010 from Rushden and Diamonds. He went on to play 156 games, scoring 43 times. Peterborough have yet to confirm that a deal is about to be done. However, this loan deal is expected to be completed a lot sooner rather than later.
