Football League Transfer Rumours: Leeds United, Cardiff City, Sunderland and Portsmouth

Leeds Chase Villa Defender

Championship promotion hopefuls Leeds United are interested in Aston Villa defender James Chester. According to Callum Vurley of the Star, United are looking to sign the 30-year-old for £7.5 million.

Manager Marcelo Bielsa is looking for a new centre-back after Pontus Jansson was sold to Brentford. Chester was part of the Villa squad which won promotion to the Premier League last season and is fan favourite. With Villa spending big this summer, they may be tempted to cash in on Chester if the price is right.

Cardiff Sign Boro’s Flint

Cardiff City have signed Middlesbrough defender Aden Flint. BBC Sport are reporting that a deal of £4 million, rising to £6 million has been agreed. Bruno Manga is set to leave the Bluebirds and Flint will be his replacement.

30-year-old Flint signed for Boro just last summer from Bristol City. The £7 million signing went on to make 39 Championship appearances. Flint has passed his medical, with the player signing a three-year deal.

United Defender Interesting Black Cats

Scott Wilson of the Northern Echo is reporting that Sunderland are looking at Sheffield United’s Ben Heneghan. The 25-year-old is expected to leave Bramall Lane this summer having become surplus to requirements. The centre-back joined the Blades from Motherwell two years ago. The Black Cats were rumoured to be interested then too.

Heneghan spent last season on loan at Blackpool making 41 appearances. Championship side Reading are also reportedly interested. Should Heneghan sign, he would become Sunderland’s third defensive signing of the summer.

EFL Transfer Rumours: Portsmouth’s Top-Scorer on the Move?

Wigan Athletic are in hot pursuit of Portsmouth winger Jamal Lowe. Will Rooney of the Portsmouth News reports that a fee is yet to be agreed; however, the clubs are not far apart in their valuation. Lowe was Portsmouth’s top scorer last season with 17 goals.

Lowe would be a big miss at Fratton Park as his goals helped the team reach the playoffs last season. Wigan have been in pursuit of Lowe all summer and look set to get their man should a fee be agreed. Pompey have already signed a new winger. Marcus Harness has joined from League One rivals Burton Albion.
