Antonee Robinson Move to AC Milan is Off
What Went Wrong?
Everything about the move appeared to be going smoothly. The two teams had agreed a fee and Robinson, who only joined Wigan last summer from Everton, had travelled to Milan to undergo a medical.
Romano reports that the medical went ahead, but discussions on terms of the transfer broke down between the two clubs.
The Sun’s Alan Nixon reports that Wigan had changed their demands from an initial loan with a £10 million obligation to £10 million up front, which Milan were unwilling to go ahead with.
It’s not yet clear whether Milan had any other targets, although they could now be left to regret allowing Ricardo Rodriguez join Dutch club PSV Eindhoven on loan for the rest of the season.
Back to Wigan
With just hours of the transfer window remaining, it seems likely that Robinson will remain with Wigan for the foreseeable future.
The Latics may be glad of it as they are in a Championship relegation battle and will need all the help they can get if they are to survive in the league.
However, £10 million could have gone a long way not just in terms of transfer budget but the day-to-day running of the club, particularly if they were relegated to League One.
It was reported that if the deal for Antonee Robinson went ahead, then Wigan would look to Colchester United left-back Cohen Bramall as a replacement.
It now seems likely that Bramall won’t be making the step up from League Two and he will remain with Colchester to help them in their quest for an automatic promotion spot.
