Aston Villa and Newcastle United have reportedly joined Chelsea in the race to sign Wigan defender Antonee Robinson this summer.

The report by Neil Moxley of the Mirror suggests Premier League clubs are circling ahead of a summer scramble.

Robinson was victim to a collapsed transfer move last week, with a deadline day £10 million move to AC Milan falling through at the last minute.

The 22-year-old had almost completed the move to the Serie A side but the Rossoneri had not left enough time to complete a medical.

It reportedly left Robinson devastated and he has not featured for the Championship strugglers since.

But the young defender could be set for a move to the Premier League later this season.

Chelsea, Villa and Newcastle are all looking to strengthen this summer and are all reportedly interested in the little-known gem.

Blues boss Frank Lampard has been outspoken in prioritising a new left-back to replace Marcos Alonso and Emerson Palmieri.

The position is one which frustrates Lampard as the former England captain has been forced to alternate between the duo and veteran Cesar Azpilicueta.

Signing a young talent such as Robinson could solve Lampard’s problems for a number of years.

It seems unlikely that there would have been a diamond glistening at the bottom end of the Championship. And then enters Robinson.

The little known talent is contracted to Wigan until 2022, meaning Wigan should make a healthy gain if they sell him this summer.

Having set a price tag for the defender, AC Milan could live to regret their failure in signing Robinson as English top-flight clubs circle.

Robinson joined the Latics from Everton last summer for £1.98 million, turning a loan deal at the DW Stadium permanent.

He has started 29 league matches since his transfer.
