Son Heung-min Out for Several Weeks
Back Up is Now Injured
Son suffered a fracture to his arm in Spurs’ recent comeback win against Aston Villa. Having gone behind to an own goal early on in the game, Tottenham faced an uphill battle. The game was even for much of its duration, however two goals from Son, including a last minute winner, got them the three points.
While the short-term benefits certainly help in a tight-fought battle for Champions league qualification, Son’s injury provides a huge blow for a Tottenham side whose top scorer, Harry Kane, already has a long-term injury.
Injuries Stacking Up
Like fellow contenders for Champions League football next season Manchester United and Chelsea, Spurs are dealing with many injuries. All three of these teams have key players out, including all of their top scorers. Although Son Heung-min is almost level with Kane on goals, his injury means that Spurs do not have a prolific goal scorer available, with no other strikers having been on good form this season. Without him, as well as other key attackers like Erik Lamela, Tottenham are going to struggle in the near future.
Tottenham’s upcoming fixtures are of extreme importance. They face RB Leipzig in the Champions League on Wednesday, followed by Wolverhampton Wanderers, Chelsea and Burnley in the Premier League. After this they will travel to Germany to face Leipzig in the fixture’s second leg. While it seems unlikely that Spurs could win the Champions League, it is still a possible route to next season’s competition, meaning that they have many key games coming up in their bid to feature in Europe’s most prestigious club competition next campaign. Son provided a focal point in attack for Tottenham, however with him and Kane out in such an important spell of games, they are going to struggle.
