Manchester United Reignite Interest in Edinson Cavani

January Intrigue

Manchester United reportedly wanted to sign Cavani in January.

With a host of strikers on their shortlist as a short term replacement for goal-scorer Marcus Rashford, they ended up signing Odion Ighalo on loan from Chinese side Shanghai Shenhua.

Although this move was laughable at the time, it has paid off very successfully, with the Red Devils now considering a £15 million permanent transfer for the former Watford man. Despite this, a transfer for Cavani may happen in the summer, with his contract running out.

Interest in Edinson Cavani for the Summer

United are now considering a move for Cavani in the summer. The Uruguayan’s contract runs out at the end of the season, and with it seeming that he will be up for grabs on a free transfer after the 30th of June, the Red Devils will be one of the sides most closely monitoring his movements.

United Need a Striker

As Barcelona are closer than ever before to signing Inter Milan star striker Lautaro Martinez, according to Mundo Deportivo of Spain, the Italian giants will look for a replacement. Anthony Martial seems to be high up on their list.

The Frenchman has been very impressive for United this season, earning him interest from Italy. It would give him the opportunity to play alongside former team-mate Romelu Lukaku, and become Antonio Conte’s third signing from Manchester United in his time at Inter, with permanent transfers of Lukaku and Ashley Young, and a loan move for Alexis Sanchez.

Should the Black and Blues’ offer tempt Martial away from Old Trafford, the Red Devils would search for a replacement. Cavani would be one of the preferred options, with a clear record for scoring goals, and the ability to fill in while youngster Mason Greenwood can acclimatize himself to life in the first-team.
