Manchester United to Hijack Barcelona’s Lautaro Martinez Plans
Impressive in Serie A
Lautaro Martinez has become a vital part of Inter Milan’s squad since joining from Racing Club in 2018. The Argentine striker has scored 12 times in Serie A this season, alongside former United man Romelu Lukaku, and has also impressed in the Champions League, with five goals in six appearances.
He has shown his impeccable ability for finishing, among other skills, and this has attracted the likes of Barcelona and Manchester United. Both of these sides want a striker and both look set to go all-out to sign the 22-year-old.
Barcelona Want a Striker
Barcelona are desperate for a striker, with Antoine Griezmann, who joined from Atletico Madrid last summer, looking as if he will leave after a disappointing season.
Martinez could be the perfect fit for them, being a very skilled, but also young and promising. He would join the likes of Ansu Fati as some of the most promising talents in the world and could become Europe’s best striker.
United Also in the Market for a Centre-Forward
Manchester United are also in the market for a centre-forward.
After trying to sign one in January, they managed to strike a loan deal with Odion Ighalo, and although he has defied all expectations, it is unlikely that he can be good enough to start regularly.
Martinez would be a fantastic signing, fitting with United’s youth-based rebuild, and a proven goalscorer.
Why Manchester United could Hijack Barcelona’s Plans
With the Coronavirus having hit mainland Europe hard, all clubs there are experiencing financial difficulties. Barca are no exception having given their players a 70% pay cut recently.
The Catalan giants are reluctant to meet Martinez’s reported £92 million release clause now that this virus has taken control of Europe, and with Inter not interested in a swap deal, United may sneak in and sign the Argentine.
