Manchester United’s Alexis Sanchez Makes Surprising Decision
Flop at United
Alexis Sanchez has been a flop since joining Manchester United in January 2018.
The Chilean had been fantastic for Arsenal in the 2016/17 campaign, scoring 24 goals and assisting 11. He was the third top scorer in the Premier League, and it seemed that he would be moving to Manchester City.
The deal looked to be done, but Sanchez’s high wage demands ended up being the downfall of the transfer. City were unwilling to pay up the £500,000 per week that the Chilean was demanding, and the move fell through.
Arsenal’s winger joined United soon after, with Henrikh Mkhitaryan going the other way.
Sanchez was unable to recreate his impeccable form that had attracted so much attention while at the Gunners, however, and he scored just two goals from twelve appearances in his first half-season in Manchester. 2018/19 brought similarly little success too, with two goals from 27 appearances, only 13 of which were starts.
No Improvements in Italy
United loaned Sanchez out to Inter Milan at the beginning of this season, where he would hopefully be able to link up with Romelu Lukaku, who the Red Devils had also let go to the Italian giants, but on a permanent deal. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer hoped that maybe this could reignite his career, but alas, it has not.
The Chilean has struggled with injury and has appeared just ten times in Serie A for Inter. The Italian side do not want to turn his deal into a permanent one, and the Red Devils will see him return at the end of the season.
Alexis Sanchez Makes Surprising Decision
West Ham are one of the teams most interested in buying the 31-year-old. He reportedly does not want to take a wage cut to leave United, however, and with his contract still having two years left on it, the Red Devils may have to fork out a hefty sum to maintain the rest of his salary.
