Kouassi Makes Bold Career Move

At just 18 years of age, Tanguy Kouassi has made a bold switch from France to Germany. He will move away from his city of birth to stake his claim in the Bundesliga.

Matt Spiro has highlighted the fact that with Thiago Silva‘s departure, Kouassi may have got a lot more game-time. But, this is only one less defender in the pecking order. Whether at PSG or Bayern, Kouassi will have to fight for his place in two star-studded squads.

Great Potential

The centre-back is already showing great promise. He has featured for France from under-16 level through to the under-18’s, amassing 41 caps thus far.

During these matches, he played a part in a squad that reached the 2019 UEFA European Under-17 Championship. In addition, he played in a squad that finished third at the 2019 FIFA Under-17 World Cup.

For PSG this season, the player made 13 appearances. He has played in a defensive midfielder role as well as primarily playing as a centre-back.

It is still so early in his career that the player must continue to work hard to develop his game. A big move across countries and leagues is one that could jeopardise his progress. But, it is also a move that could ignite his career. It is impossible to see inside the player’s mind, after all. He was rumoured to have an extensive list of suitors.

Christian Falk of Sport Bild reports that Sports director Hasan Salihamidzic (43) has been monitoring Kouassi “for over a year”. Furthermore, “Chief scout Marco Neppe already watched Kouassi at the U17 European Championships in Dublin last year” (Translated from the German).

Bayern have secured a quality young player in Tanguy Kouassi. It will be interesting to see if the player’s decision will pay off.
