Following Bayern Munich’s 4-2 DFB-Pokal final victory against Bayer Leverkusen, manager Hansi Flick has said that he is trying his best to convince Thiago Alcantara to stay at the club.

As of late, there were rumours that a move to Liverpool was on the horizon, with further reports from Sport Bild suggesting that the player had backed out of a new contract with Bayern after hearing of interest from the new Premier League champions.

Hansi Flick to Convince Thiago to Stay Despite Liverpool Rumours

What Was Said?

Speaking to reporters, Flick said: “The thing is, I always have hope. I’m actually always very positive about things.

“I also know, of course, that when you are at a certain age and you’ve already played in the Spanish league with Barcelona and in the Bundesliga with Bayern Munich, you feel the need to experience another big league.

“That is quite normal and that is also human. I’m trying my best to make sure Thiago stays here and that you can convince him to stay.”

This Season’s Performance

Despite missing the last couple of months due to injury, Thiago has been ever-present in the Bayern side this season.

Although not a player known for his scoring, he’s scored three goals for the German giants this season. That, alongside a pass completion rate at 90.5%, it is not a surprise that clubs are looking to secure the holding midfielder.

How Would He Improve Liverpool?

Liverpool’s front three has already contributed to 74 goals this season. If he can bring that same pass completion to Liverpool, then don’t be surprised to see that rise next season.

Although he hasn’t got many assists this season, he has spent his time playing in a defensive midfield role. If he moved to Liverpool in a more advanced role, with players like Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane around him, expect to see his assist record rise.

A move to Liverpool would see competition for places. That is healthy for a side who is challenging to win some of the best competitions in football and something that the players at the club would look forward to.
