League Two new boys Barrow have completed the signing of central defender Matty Platt from Blackburn Rovers. The fee is undisclosed with Platt signing a two-year deal.

Platt played 30 times on loan at the Bluebirds last season as the club topped the table to return to the Football League. Manager David Dunn supposedly beat competition from other EFL clubs to secure Platt’s signature.

Matty Platt Completes Permanent Move to Barrow From Blackburn

New Signing Delighted to Complete Permanent Move

Having spent time on loan at the Progression Solicitors Stadium, the 22-year-old is delighted to have agreed a permanent move to the EFL new boys: “I thoroughly enjoyed my loan spell here at Barrow AFC. Everyone at the club were so welcoming and supportive when I first arrived and I was delighted to have played a small part in securing their promotion back to the EFL after a 48-year absence.

“To be able to turn that loan move into a permanent arrangement is hugely exciting as the future of this club looks very, very bright and I’m really looking forward to working once more with the new manager David Dunn, who I know well from my time with Blackburn’s under 23s.”

A Firm Favourite After Second Loan Spell

Platt had his first spell at Barrow during the 2016/17 season. However, it was his second spell at the club where he really impressed. The Bluebirds began the season with five defeats in their opening eight matches, but once Platt arrived, the team’s fortunes turned around. Barrow would go on to lose just four games in the 30 Platt played in. It was this form that saw the team top the National League table and eventually earn their place back in the Football League.

Matty Platt Becomes Barrow’s Fourth Signing

Matty Platt becomes David Dunn’s fourth signing of the summer as the Bluebirds prepare for the new season. Mike Jones, Tom Beadling and wide attacker Luke James have already signed as Dunn strengthens his squad ahead of the new season, which begins on 12th September.
