Chelsea transfer target Kai Havertz will play for Bayer Leverkusen in their remaining Europa League fixtures, the clubs Managing Director of Sport has confirmed.

Kai Havertz to Stay at Bayer Leverkusen For Europa League Matches

Remain at Bayer for Remainder of Season

Bayer Leverkusen Managing Director of Sport, Rudi Völler, has confirmed that the midfielder will see out their Europa League fixtures. “That is set in stone,” said the 60-year-old.

Völler also confirmed that the club are yet to receive any concrete offers for the winger, despite being linked with Bayern Munich and Chelsea this season.

The 21-year-old winger and his teammates take a 3-1 advantage to Ibrox for the second leg of their Europa League tie. The winner will face either Inter Milan or Getafe in the semi-final.

Chelsea Link

Havertz has been linked with a move to Stamford Bridge for some time now. But Völler has dismissed any chances of a discount of their star player as a result of the coronavirus pandemic.

Bayern have pulled out of the race after the Bundesliga champions revealed they would not match the wingers £90 million release clause.

But Chelsea, who have already seen Timo Wener leave Germany for London, are continuing their pursuit despite tabling a concrete bid.

Chelsea are reportedly willing to match the release clause but want to settle any differences with add ons as opposed to an upfront fee.

Havertz This Season

Havertz has had an incredible season for Leverkusen this season. The 21-year-old played in 30 Bundesliga games, where he scored 12 and assisted six more.

He plays in a wide range of positions, including the eight, ten and false nine positions. He can also operate on either wing. This versatility is a great benefit for any buying club by adding squad depth with just one signing.

After his outstanding season, Havertz reportedly wants a new challenge. Bayer Leverkusen’s failure to challenge for the league title, or even qualify for the Champions League, influenced Havertz to consider a move, and a move to Chelsea looks certain after Frank Lampard’s side secured Champions League football.
